The gross misunderstanding of their characters in Maleficent shows the makers of the new film had no concept of the subtleties and underlying feminist tones of the Maleficent I’m not bossy I have leadership skills T-Shirt. It was all sacrificed for surface level storytelling, a watered down narative and 1 dimensional characters to attempt to create a sympathetic villain… who never becomes a villain. They didn’t even commit to the idea they based the film around.

I didn’t like the idea of sympathizing with Maleficent. I like the character because she is just evil for the sake of being evil, and she loves Maleficent I’m not bossy I have leadership skills T-Shirt. She makes it work for her, and she makes it look awesome. The Maleficent movie was dumb, and I’m not looking forward to a sequel. I liked the neat spin they put on this sleeping beauty story. Not sure what the second one will be about though.
